Liam
Walsh:
Vice President.
Mr. Dependable.- Liam is a
Vice President who is not afraid of hard work. Whether it is handing out
leaflets, prompting, making up C.D's for rehearsals, arranging our
insurance or even providing words of sympathy when things are not quite
going as well as we hope.
Liam is a much in demand Management Consultant and much of his work
takes him abroad, however, as soon as he arrives back on Bute he is
right into the middle of the action.
He is not only a writer of note, having one of his plays presented by
the acclaimed Abbey Theatre of Dublin, but also lectures on many
subjects.
Liam is keen rambler and knows more about Bute than many of the locals.

Ursula
Eames.
Secretary.
Every organisation needs a good Secretary and we have got the best.
Nothing is ever too much trouble for Ursula and, although she owns and
runs The Alamein B.&B., she always seems to have time in her diary, not
only for Bute Amateur Players, but for the W.R.I.
Ursula like Betty is a great dog lover and she has 3 lovely Shi-tzu who
always give the committee a fantastic welcome when we hold our meetings
in The Alamein.
Ursula was blessed with a new grand daughter over the festive season.
Congratulations.
Last year, due to the fact that she was not "on stage" Ursula took
charge of the Front of House activities e.g. Raffle and programme sales,
as Betty (Treasurer) was acting as Mrs. Culfeathers in "The Steamie",
Ursula (No mean singer) was also part of the "Off Stage" chorus for the
"Pals" section in that production. |

|
Betty
Norris-Smith.
Our Treasurer.
Betty is one of those people
who is an inspiration to others. When many retired members of our
Community are quite happy to sit at home with their feet up, Betty
claims that retirement gives her more time to take part in many of her
interests.
As well as a School Governor and a member of The Players, Betty takes
part in writers groups and is well known for her work in the W.R.I.
She is an animal lover, and can be seen regularly walking her dog
"Snowy" along the Esplanade.
As our treasurer, Betty is incomparible. At every Committee Meeting,
Betty is "Spot On" with her figures and, obviously, relishes her Office. |
|
|
Rosemary
Lonie.
A veteran and a
stalwart of our club since it's founding and, along with Liam Walsh, was
responsible for much of the script for the recent V.E. Day Celebration
Anniversary in the Pavilion. She has appeared as an actress in most of
our productions. Apart from "The Players", Rosemary's passions are the
W.R.I and the Speakers Club. |
|
|
Ian
Carmichael.
A very popular
character in "The Players" and an extremely ardent member of The
Speaker's Club. Nobody can forget
Ian's exit in "The Pipes, The Pipes", which was set in Edinburgh, with
the totally made up line of "Well I'll just go down to the Black Bull in
West Princes Street for a pint" leaving a stunned cast and a prompter
practically tearing his hair out. |
|
Jimmy
Purvis;
Jimmy was born and brought up in a small place called Dormanstown in
Cleveland.
He came to Bute on holiday with his wife and daughter 11 years ago and
they all fell in love with the island, indeed, they only took a week to
return and have been here ever since.
Jimmy, along with his sister-in-law, Barbara (Renee in "The Odd Couple.)
were cajoled by Rosemary and Ian to come along and watch the rehearsals
and, as the saying goes, the rest is history.
Jimmy didn't want to act but offered to help build the set for "The
Steamie". This is the sort of offer that The Players do not turn down,
and Jimmy is a reliable member of the production team. We nicknamed him
"E-Type Jimmy because he never walked two steps when he could run twenty
and is now our A.S.M. (Assistant Stage Manager.).
His daughter is taking a college course in make-up and hairdresing and
wants to help with our productions this year. Welcome aboard. |
